AZNRaps - You're still a pretty new face to the music scene according to AZNRaps' perspective, so can you introduce us w/ who "Viddy V" really is and what exactly it is that he is doing?
Viddy - OK. My name is David Llorente aka Viddy V aka Dave El Caliente aka Vid-Vicious aka something something (all those "aka's" were given to me by other people). Anyways, I go by the name Viddy-V and all I'm doing is making music that I feel. Doing it the way I wanna do it, and just making sure it's dope for everyone to feel. And hopefully, if God wills, I can make a career out of music so I don't have to punch any more clocks to make someone else wealthier.
AZNRaps - I feel you on the clock punching haha. How did your fascination with music begin and when was it when you started making your own music?
Viddy - I've always been into music. My dad was in a band during the 60's and they toured Asia and all that. I just remember some of my earliest memories being connected to music. I grew up listening to the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and all that good stuff. I've been making up my own lyrics and writing songs ever since I was 6 or 7. But it was only when I turned 14 that I learned how to record and make songs.
AZNRaps - You are quite a versatile artist. You can produce, rap, sing and rock it out but which one is your main style and why?
Viddy - My main style is rap. Rap music is the first genre that I considered my own. I was always fascinated with rap and rappers. When most kids would pretend to be astronauts or cops, I would pretend to be this "ballin' outta control-ass" rapper with his own record label.
AZNRaps - When you are working on music, how does your creative process work? Do you listen to an instrumental and write or do you wait for an idea first?
Viddy - It all depends. Sometimes I'll just be chilling, wherever it may be, at work, at home, at school, and I'll come up with a concept or what not and just go from there. Most of the time, I'll make a beat, or I'll listen to a beat someone gave me, and if it's dope enough to hit me off bat, then I'll just make a song off of that feeling I get from a good beat.
AZNRaps - Where do you draw inspiration from?
Viddy - I draw inspiration from many things. It could be personal experience, it could be a situation a friend or family member goes through, or it could be as plain as eating a wack mc. Sometimes I mix different situations and ideas together to form one cohesive concept.
AZNRaps - A lot of families aren't to supportive towards music as a career. How does your family respond to your passion in music?
Viddy - It's gotten to the point that they can't do anything about it. HAHAH they have no choice but to be supportive. They know this is what I love and they know that this is what I'm good at.
AZNRaps - You have been played on several local radio stations. What was your first song aired on the radio and how was your reaction when you heard it being played?
Viddy - I've been played on a few college stations. The first major station where I got play from was 106 KMEL out here in San Francisco, but it wasn't my song, it was AM-Kidd's "And I know" where I was singing the hook and stuff. As for my reaction, let's just say I was blown away. Excited man, SUPER excited.
AZNRaps - As we mentioned earlier with you being fairly new to the scene, how can listeners find your music and keep updated with your material?
Viddy - You can find me on good ol' myspace(www.myspace.com/viddyv) or go to imeem.com and type in "viddy v". Surprisingly a lot of people have my music uploaded there. I'm also currently working on my album "Dave El Caliente" and that should be done by September 24. Keep checking my myspace for details and updates.
AZNRaps - That brings us to our next question, it seems like you are selective on who you work with, how do you choose who you work with?
Viddy - Just be dope. I like working with cats that bring originality to the game, someone with their own sound, definitely. If you're an MC, make sure bar after bar is hot and that you're actually saying something. Not just rapping out your yin yang. And if you're singing, bring some soul to the table. And as for beats, as long as the drums are on point and the melody is sweet, I'll mess with ya.
AZNRaps - If an artist wanted to collaborate with you, what would be the best way to get in contact? Do you have a management team you go through?
Viddy - Artists can hit me up directly through myspace or holler at my boy Chinh Check. He's my manager. You can also email me at

AZNRaps - If you have an opportunity to work with one musician, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Viddy - Man, there are too many to name. Seriously, I have to name more than one. I'd love to work with Nas. He's my main inspiration when it comes to rap. Nas is the most important lyricist in rap. His writing is impeccable and his style is just classic. For beats, I'd work with Madlib. His beats are so gritty and rugged yet on point and soulful. I also wanna work with MF doomcbecause he's MF Doom.
AZNRaps - Alright Viddy, our time to wrap this interview is near. Are there any last words you would like Aznraps to send out?
Viddy - I wanna thank AZNraps for this interview. I've been checkin aznraps for years, listenin to Thai and Memoriza Mozart and others. I just want to thank all those who have been listening over the years, and to assure them that I'm gonna be bringing more sounds to the table. Also for those who haven't heard me, just take a pause and listen. I'm sure you'll find something you like.
