It's amazing to see where rap music has evolved to from Biggie dropping this song over a decade ago, to his passing, and to a new generation of rappers of young rappers like D-League paying tribute to him.
"[Beatboxing] It's a metaphysical process of becoming an instrument of music, and a human sound machine."-- Jason Tom shares his thoughts about his favorite element of hip-hop. Check AR's interview with this Hawaiian beatboxer.
Everyone's seen some crazy things riding the public transportation system. Good thing that nowadays everyone has a cell phone camera to film them. In this video, a bus rider recorded footage of an altercation between two women over, get this, a bus seat.
We've seen fights break out over love, over money, over many things. But a bus seat? Come on folks!
Anyway, there are a couple of good head-knocks on here. Props to the Asian girl who got between it and tried to referee a clean fight.
The Japanese media creators have outdone themselves with the latest iPhone app. In this application, you can visually view a Japanese female, and then with a stroke of your finger send a gust of wind that blows up her skirt. Perverted? Yes. Interesting? Yes. Worth buying? You decide!
It looks like John Woo is back with a new epic Asian drama, the first in a few years. The new movie, Red Cliff, will be out in select theatres. Judging from the trailer below, this is one of those movies that might be the next Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to an American audience.
Here's a new single from Rel Princeton who's been one of the more active independent Asian American rappers out there. He's done songs with artists like Ray J and Bizzy Bone (of Bone Thugs n Harmony). This new song features a female singer by the name of Nikki Flores. It's unclear about whether or not you'll be hearing this on any local radio stations, but for now enjoy it off of YouTube below.
Baybayin, an ancient Filipino script, has been modernized by artist, David Lazaro, in his Baybayin Collegiate Series, an extension of The Bathala Project.
As a way to mix Filipino heritage and pride with the artistic creativity inspired by graffiti and urban art forms, the creation of The Bathala Project was born. The Bathala Project's main purpose was to appeal to a current generation of Filipino Americans who were unaware of this cultural and unique form of writing.
The first design in David's Collegiate Series focuses on "California," which is written in Baybayin and stylized in Roman English characters. Expect to see more states represented in the series, and an interview with David Lazaro on Aznraps in the near future.
It seems like every major sport in America has been gaining more and more Asian athletes on their teams. It started with Baseball picking up a bunch of Japanese and Korean players, and then with the NBA and their influx of Chinese stars. Now, if Cheng Ho has anything to say about it, football is up next.
Cheng Ho is a freshman running back at Harvard University and had his first start with the team over the weekend. Cheng Ho ran for 132 yards on 21 carries (6.3 ypc) and scored two touchdowns Saturday. If you're curious about reading more on Cheng, check out the Harvard school newspaper online at this link.
To date, there has been only one known professional Asian in the NFL named Dat Nguyen, who was a linebacker on the Dallas Cowboys.
Back in the 90's when Street Fighter was the best fighting game out, there was another game that tried to compete and had it's own cult following: The King of Fighters. Die-hard fans of the series may be happy to know that the game is being turned into a movie.
It has a number of overseas celebrities like Will Yun Lee, Maggie Q, Bernice Liu, and Francoise Yip. Interestingly, there will be a White guy named Sean Faris who will be playing the Japanese character Kyo Kusanagi.
So far, with this behind the scenes look, it reminds me of the first Street Fighter movie with all of the B-rated action.
