Baby Yu is not your typical DJ.  Sure he does his thing on the one's and two's at some of the hottest night clubs throughout the world.  Beyond that, though, is what sets him apart.

Starting off at a young age, Baby Yu wasn't influenced by anybody but himself.  Picking up DJ'ing to him was more of a cool hobby that turned into something bigger than anyone could have imagined.  Now dubbed "The Remix Kid", Baby Yu has found his way into remixing a number of songs, finding work alongside big names such as T.I., Kanye West, Ludacris, Christina Milian, etc.

Despite working with such big names, Baby Yu still keeps his humble roots in check, making him one of  those people you just want to root for to make it in the crazy world of music and entertainment.

AZNRaps - Baby Yu.. man, just looking at your MySpace it looks like you're ahead of the game.  How does it feel to be so succesful?

Baby Yu - successful? I'm not sure if I consider myself that at all.  I see a lot of other DJ's in the same boat so I feel like I'm in the middle of the pack.  Khaled, Clinton, Drama, AM and Jazzy Jeff.. now those guys are successful.  I hope to achieve as much as they do one day!

AZNRaps - Let's see.. off the top I see Baby Yu, Miss Info, and maybe Jin up there as the most known Asians folks in hip hop.  What would you say

got you to where you are, so far ahead other folks.

Baby Yu - Well, when I started I never thought about being like another DJ or try to be famous.  It was for the love of the music and took it up as a hobby.  I guess when you're passionate, patient and dedicated enough, like how I am with my music, it definitely got me to where I stand now.

AZNRaps - Tell us exactly what you do.  You call yourself  "The Remix Kid".  What's that mean?

Baby Yu - I never got into turntablism, so I had to come up with something that created hype and something different to the table.  Anyone can just come and play music by pressing buttons, so

if I'm booked half way across the country  I always felt that I better put on some spectacular show that no normal DJ can really do.

if I'm booked half way across the country  I always felt that I better put on some spectacular show that no normal DJ can really do.  For some reason when I started DJing I was already into remixing tracks, and as the  years went by I got better, faster and learned the tricks that helped me incorporate it into my shows.  So this is why they call me The Remix Kid... remixes all day baby!!!

AZNRaps - Diddy once had a CD called "We Invented the Remix".  From your point of view, true or false?

Baby Yu - What can I say, from the mid 90's when he was with Biggie, Mase, Mary, Faith, I mean the list goes on he's been killing the remixes on tracks, so I would have to say TRUE!

AZNRaps - Have you ever met Diddy.  How was he?

Baby Yu - Actually never met  him yet.  He's a hard working dude, thats all I know.

AZNRaps - Out of all the folks you've worked with, who would be the most interesting to you?

Baby Yu – Hmm...everyone that I've met are all cool with me.  I've opened up for Pharrell, Nas, Black Eyed Peas, toured with Snoop, Sean Paul, 112 and did after parties for Usher & Jay.. but I gotta say Kanye is most interesting to me.  I don't know what goes on in his head when hes making that crazy beat, and those crazy rants at award shows and especially at that TV special for Katrina victims with Mike Myers.  He's crazy lol!

AZNRaps - Is there anyone you haven't met that you want to meet?

Baby Yu - Madonna & Michael Jackson, enough said!

AZNRaps - Let's talk about Bathing Apes.  I see you rocking it in every single picture with a celebrity on your MySpace.  Do you get the hook up from Nigo (the creator)?

Baby Yu - I travel so much and I'm lucky to get to these stores in Japan and in NYC so I go on a shopping frenzy at times.  The joke is I've known about Bape when it started 10-15 years ago, because my cousin in Japan will take me to the Bape boutique and buy stuff.  $100 a shirt... I was broke as a joke in high school those were like diamond plated rims to me at the time.. lol.

AZNRaps - Do you ever wear the same shirt twice?

Baby Yu - Good question!  Right now..

I think I can go 4 months straight wearing different shirts every single day.  Now thats a lot of clothes in my room!

I think I can go 4 months straight wearing different shirts every single day.  Now thats a lot of clothes in my room!  Lotta clothes are given to me and I'm a shopoholic so...

AZNRaps - What's your relationship like with Nigo?  Have you ever worked with his artists "The Teriyaki Boyz"?

Baby Yu - Actually never met him yet, but the Teriyaki Boyz are dope!  Hope to work with them soon though!

AZNRaps - Let's look at your career.  Besides your DJ'ing hustle, what else do you do and what are your goals?

Baby Yu - I play hockey still.  Had a couple scholarship opportunities back in my day, but music was my first love.  My goal is to conquer this music biz and tackle the production game as well.  Keep traveling the world to DJ and express myself on the radio waves!

AZNRaps - People who see you at such a young age doing what you're doing may think you did it overnight.  Did it happen like that?  What kind of trials have you gone through to get where you are today?

Baby Yu - Overnight celebrity? Lol never !  It took me 10 years to get where I am now.. and I'm still not sure where I stand.  The biz is hard, stressful and patience is something you have to accept as well.  It's a sacrifice for sure to get into the entertainment business because a lot of time is invested in it that can affect relationships with close ones.  It might look good on the cover and on the red carpet, but a lot of work and dedication is put into something that's not guaranteed to all so it can get stressful and frustrating.  For me, being lucky, being at the right place at the right time and having a good team behind me has helped me get through.

AZNRaps - You know, I first heard of you through DJ Swivel who's an engineer and producer for Fabolous.  Are you guys still part of a crew?  How has networking with people in the industry helped you get to where you are?

Baby Yu - Actually we were never in a crew, but I'm sure he was talking about working under the same people.  My manager also does a lot of club nights and he was always a part of it as well.. so we were always close.  Now he's killing it in the engineering game out in NYC, and I'm proud of him for that.  Networking is key in this game and it's helped me tremendously.  I attend DJ conferences, keep in touch with artists, managers, promoters, and record reps always.  I became part of Violator All-Star DJ's because of it.  Success has a lot to do with who you know in any situation.

AZNRaps - Once the ball started rolling in your favor, did it snowball into how big it is today?  Or, has the game had it's ups and downs over the years?

Baby Yu - I mean when it starts rolling how it did for me, I took nothing for granted and made sure every year there was something bigger happening in my career.  It wasn't a smooth ride all the way through of course, but kept positive and kept everything rolling according to plan.

AZNRaps - What made you want to get into DJ'ing in the first place?  Since you're younger than most DJ's, were you influenced by some of the current DJ's today, or the original cats?

Baby Yu - See thats the weird thing.  I never started because I saw Kid Capri play at the club, or Jazzy Jeff on the radio.  I just thought it was a cool hobby to pick up, since my friend was DJing at a birthday party so it just happened the next day.  Since grade school I always collected CD's and Cassette's, so maybe I've been starting before I even knew it!

AZNRaps - What would you say separates you from the rest of the DJ's you meet?

Baby Yu - On the technical side, the remixing definitely.  But on the flip side I have this mission.  I've always wanted to be a good influence on others and help them.  I thought that with my music I can accomplish that, and the more known I get the more I can reach out to.

AZNRaps - Alright man, well for those looking forward to hearing you in action, where can they get more info?

Baby Yu - babyyu.com for my updates, babyyumixtapes.com for my mixtapes, babyyu.com/podcast for my radio shows and mixes, and of course my myspace.com/babyyu add me!

AZNRaps - Any last words or shout outs?

Baby Yu - Big shouts to yall for having me on here, the Violator Team, The League Crew, my peoples at XM radio and of course The Substance Group!   And don't forget my supporters as well.. thank ya!
